Hello everyone!

After a well deserved mid-term break and an exciting Halloween we returned in November to chillier days and the lovely colours of autumn on the roads and in the fields around our school.

The colder, and sometimes rainy weather, has not cooled our students enjoyment of outdoor play. Tunnel town may look a little despondent, now that the long grass is dying back, but its inhabitants are in full swing as they expand their territory and make preparations for winter. Football and Handball are still enjoyed every day, and whole-school games of tip the can and family tag are a regular event.

We’ve enjoyed a number of visits this month; two staff members from True Nature Sudbury School joined us for founder’s week in early November, and a fabulous group of staff and students from West Cork Sudbury School joined us for a 2 day visit later in the month. We look forward to making a return visit to West Cork before the school year ends. Exchanges between Sudbury Schools are a great opportunity for students from different schools to connect with one another, make new friendships, and share experiences.

During Science Week we were delighted to be able to avail of 2 workshops sponsored by ATU Sligo Science Festival for schools; Airheads, a fantastically entertaining and educational science show, experimenting with air, preassure, and Bernoulli’s principle. (go on — look it up!), and Madlabs, an exciting workshop on soldering circuits to make working electronic gadgets. These workshops were a great success and hopefully ignited some new passions.
