Hello everyone!

As we march through this vibrant and busy month, our school community has been buzzing with energy and creativity! From exciting hands-on projects to the launch of several fundraising initiatives, there’s been no shortage of enthusiasm and teamwork. We are thrilled to share the highlights of these endeavours, which are bringing our students, parents, and staff closer together as we continue to build a bright future for our school.

Tree Planting

Once again, our wonderful parent community came together in a beautiful display of generosity and community spirit. This time, we were thrilled to plant over 200 native trees, generously provided by Free Trees Ireland, to establish a vibrant native woodland right here on our school grounds.

The Sudbury Times

The student-run newspaper continues to impress, publishing its second edition in March with the same exceptional quality and attention to detail. The editorial team has truly set the bar high for student journalism, and we can’t wait to see what’s next!

Market Day

Market Day was yet another incredible success, bringing together students, staff, and the wider community for a day of creativity, entrepreneurship, and fun. The energy was high, and we were all inspired by the ingenuity and creativity on display!

Engineering Fair ATU Sligo

Winners! In early March, three of our talented students showcased their innovative project at the ATU Sligo Engineering Fair. Their creation, a mousetrap-powered car, took a creative leap forward with the addition of wings, transforming it into a flying mousetrap car! The judges were captivated by their ingenuity and thorough explanation of the design. As a result, our young engineers were awarded the prestigious Best Overall Project prize. We are incredibly proud of their achievement and can’t wait to see where their passion for engineering takes them next!

Democratic Education Ireland Conference

Looking ahead, we’re excited to announce our participation in the Democratic Education Ireland Conference, taking place this April at Drewstown House in Co. Meath. Our school will join five other democratic schools, bringing together staff, students, and alumni to share experiences, exchange ideas, and learn from one another. This year, twelve of our teen students will attend, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with like-minded peers and deepen their understanding of democratic education. It will be an inspiring and enriching experience for all involved!

Gaisce trip planning

Our Gaisce Bronze and Silver Award participants are gearing up for an exciting challenge this year! Twelve of our students are working hard towards their awards, and the highlight of their experience will be the Adventure Journey – a challenging 3-day hike. While we’re still in the planning stages, everyone is excited about the upcoming adventure. To help prepare, we’ll be taking on a one-day hike in the coming weeks to test our endurance and make sure we’re ready for the bigger challenge ahead. We look forward to sharing our stories and experiences from this incredible journey!

Parent Fundraising Team: Making a Difference

A huge thank you to our incredible parent fundraising team, led by Aine, Pamela, and Eloise, who have been doing an extraordinary job to support our school community. They’ve already hosted two informative sessions to present the fundraising plan, brainstorm ideas, and encourage everyone to get involved. Looking ahead, there are some exciting initiatives coming up next month, including the RE-Fund Recycling campaign, a Special Easter Market, and a Friends & Family Tea Party event. The Tea Party invites supporters to host a gathering at their home or workplace to raise funds for the CEIDE Project. These efforts are all about strengthening our community while raising essential funds to further develop our school. We encourage everyone to get involved, whether by supporting these initiatives or by organising your own fundraising event. If you’re interested or know someone else who is, please don’t hesitate to get in touch. You can contact us at info@sligosudburyschool.com— we can’t wait to hear from you!
Your participation makes a big difference!
