As self-directed learners we trust that our students are continuing to enjoy pursuing their own interests at home with their families or alone. We also understand that being home alone, isolated from your friends for a long time can be difficult in some ways, so we […]

Image Magazine on Alternative Schooling

We are thrilled to be featured by Image Magazine’s Orla Neligan in her exploration of alternative schooling, which includes the voices of parents, homeschoolers, experts in child psychology, and mainstream teachers in addition to that of democratic, self-directed education.

Madlab at The Model

The Madlab workshop was really fun. First we had to put all the wires into the right places and then we had to solder them and trim off the ends. The soldering bit was the best part. It was a bit risky because the soldering iron was very hot but is was a lot of fun and so satisfying to make something that really […]

Science Week Activities

On Sunday we participated in the Science Fair at IT Sligo, demonstrating some of the experiments we’ve been doing lately in science group. We did the Cartesian diver, which is an experiment to do with water preassure; lemon and potato circuits, which is an experiment to do with electrical currents; and a red cabbage dye experiment, which worked really well for tie dying t-shirts.

Our first school tour

We had a fantastic day out for our first school tour last week. After an invigorating start and lots of fun at the Harbour Splash Aqua Park in Dun Laoghaire we headed over to the Phoenix Park to visit Bloom and meet up with staff and students from our sister school, Wicklow Sudbury School. A beautiful day and a lovely end to the year.
