The beautiful month of April brought with it a real sense that summer is just around the corner. We’ve been making the most of the longer days, with almost all our time spent outdoors playing, growing, building, studying, meeting new and old friends, creating, and laughing. We also gained a new staff member and a new student to enjoy this last school term of 2024-2025 with.
Ciara and her team of gardeners have been busy nurturing new life in the polytunnel, while parent volunteer Kylie has generously given her time to create a wildlife pond in the garden beside the school — a wonderful new habitat for biodiversity. We will all enjoy seeing this come to fruition.
Our school newspaper, The Sudbury Times, continues to thrive. With its trademark mix of thought-provoking articles, engaging interviews, and brain-teasing puzzles and crosswords, it keeps us informed and entertained month after month and makes a significant contribution to our ongoing fundraising efforts.
April wouldn’t be complete without some festive fun! Our Easter Egg Scavenger Hunt was a big hit, with four levels of challenge — from simple clues to tricky riddles — ensuring something for everyone. A sweet and spirited end to the term! We also celebrated with an extra-special Market Day in April, which was warmly attended by friends and neighbours. Thanks to the amazing efforts of our parent-run fundraising committee, €923.05 was raised at the Easter Market and a further €106.30 from two Tuesday Bottle Return collections. All of these contributions and efforts add up to make a big impact.
Rú interviewed one of our alumni for his latest episode of Self-DIrected Life. Jack Feakins joined our school when he was 15 after his family moved from England. He spent three years at Sligo Sudbury School before moving on to explore his interests in technology further. In this conversation Jack reflects on the difference attending Sligo Sudbury School made in his life, what he learned about himself and about life, and where his journey is taking him next.
