June Highlights

What a fantastic way to wrap up the 7th year of Sligo Sudbury School! It really feels like we’ve completed our first chapter and are ready to grow into a new phase—with our vibrant and growing community of wonderful students and families.

The final month of school filled our hearts with joy as projects came to fruition and deepened relationships blossomed into a beautiful celebration of our shared talents and efforts.

Gaisce Awards

We’re thrilled to share that ten of our Gaisce participants received their Bronze Awards, and two were honoured with Silver Awards after completing all the requirements, including their adventure journeys. We’re incredibly proud of each and every one of them!

Musical Performance of the Year

We were absolutely blown away by this year’s musical, One Song, performed at The Factory. With an entirely original script and score, this moving and uplifting story about a new girl’s journey to find her place had us laughing through tears. A huge shout-out to the students and staff who brought it all to life! The drama circle now plans to further develop the show and perform it at the Hawkswell Theatre next year—we can’t wait!

Workshops & Gatherings

Our Freedom & Responsibility Workshops brought students of all ages together to explore what those values mean in everyday school life. It was heartening to hear students share openly about the challenges of managing freedom and support one another in finding thoughtful approaches.

Our Parent Chat Night was another great success—well-attended and full of lively conversation. Topics ranged from neurodiversity and inclusion to the ups and downs of teen self-direction, mentoring, and student/staff ratios. The ideas and insights shared will definitely help shape staff planning for the year ahead.

We also held our Annual Community Meeting, reviewing the highlights and challenges of the past year and sharing plans for future growth.

One of the most inspiring moments this month was our Alumni Roundtable. Recent grads Oscar, Jack, and Sean returned to share their journeys after Sligo Sudbury with current students and parents. Hearing about their lives and future plans sparked meaningful conversations and gave younger students a real sense of what’s possible through self-directed learning.

Staff Training

A big shout-out to one of our staff members who completed training with Carmichael on understanding and influencing the Oireachtas. This training—generously funded by Sligo PPN—was a valuable step in learning how to drive meaningful change through the political system.

As we wrap up another year, we’re feeling grateful and proud. Huge thanks to our amazing staff team, the ever-supportive parents, and our dedicated Board of Trustees. Your passion, commitment, and heart are what keep this school thriving.

Here’s to the journey ahead!
